It is the end of May and we still have contests to cover. Welcome to shralp!, episode 125 from May 31st 2009.

Mammoth Mountain held the West Coast Invitational, also known as the WCI. As you can see, Mother Nature threw a combination of wind, rain, sleet and over a foot of snow at Mammoth. The pipe comp, originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, took place on Saturday afternoon despite the less-than-perfect weather conditions. After a two hour jam-session, all of the riders converged at the bottom of the halfpipe to vote for their favorite rider. After all the votes were tallied, Luke Mitrani took top prize and 6K of the $10,000 purse. Additional prizes went to Mammoth local Greg Bretz, Elena Hight and Mercedes Nicoll.

On Saturday evening, all of the riders converged on the Village at Mammoth for the Village Railjam. The riders went head-to-head in a 60-minute jam-session in front of about 700 people.

After the jam-session finished, the riders converged once again to vote for the winner. After all the votes but one were tallied, there was a dead-tie between Mike Casanova and Dan Brisse. The final vote left to be cast was from Casanova, who subsequently voted for Brisse, making Brisse 10K richer. Due to the close finish, Casanova was awarded a bonus prize of $2,500 and tons of good karma.

“Let’s Go Get Lost” will be Isenseven’s 8th consecutive movie. It features the riding of well-known Isenseven friends like Erik Botner, Fredrik Evensen, André Kuhlmann, Christophe Schmidt, the Strauss twins and Torgeir Berre, as well as the recent team-additions like Marc Swoboda and Anton Gunnarson.

I Heart Snow Production / Recession Proof

Another teaser for another film. This one has the politically aware title: “Recession Proof”. It is I Heart Snow Production’s 2009 movie featuring East Coast riders snowboarding through the current U.S. Recession. The crew traveled throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachussetts, and Quebec filming at various urban and on mountain locations.

‘Last Trick’ Rail Jam

Realizing that they have two dozen Saturdays coming up and playing on snow won’t be an option Stowe’s park crew set up the rails, boxes and jumps for one more jam session. They used the last remaining giant pile of snow, formerly the halfpipe for this litte comp.
