Congratulations to Melanie Bartels from Hawaii, winner of the 2008 Billabong Girls Pro Rio. Welcome to shralp surf! episode 65. Melanie defeated Sofia Mulanovich in barreling 4 foot waves at Barra da Tijuca one of Rio’s many beaches. Stephanie Gilmore, the current World Champ who surfed the only perfect ten of the event, had to surrender to Bartels in the semis. After Rio Bartels is now ranked sixth. Gilmore is still leading the ratings with Mulanovich in second and Layne Beachley in third. Next event on the women’s ASP world tour is the Beachley Classic on Sydney’s Northern Beaches from October 9 to 14.
